ABOUT THE EVENT
In light of Australia’s escalating domestic violence crisis, with one woman killed every four days, recent high-profile incidents capturing global attention, and one Australian state creating a government position aimed at "changing men’s behaviour," there has never been a more critical time for action. The Federal Government’s recent announcement of a $4.7 billion package to combat domestic violence underscores the urgency of addressing this issue on a systemic level, emphasising a coordinated effort across states.
However, the stigma and shame associated with admitting abusive behaviour continue to hinder progress. At the Engaging Perpetrators of Violence for Positive Behavioural Change Workshop, we’ll delve into the nuances of violent behaviours and their impact on both perpetrators and their affected family members. This program will explore the underlying drivers and reinforcers of violence, offering insights into how these factors influence the behaviour change process. We will address the role of shame and incorporate shame-responsive practices, utilising advanced facilitation micro-skills while considering the gendered aspects of this work.
